Here’s an honest list of my attributes & faults, compiled from my own knowledge & suggestions from other people close to me & who know me well…
Organisation – of my life, personal & business &, of-course, keeping my clients orgainised too
Patience – keeping calm, not outwardly showing frustration, maintaining professionalism
Proactive – getting stuff done & trying to anticipate upcoming issues
Being Practical – trying things myself, working things out, getting stuck-in, learning new skills, figuring-out the PC, doing DIY, sewing & knitting
Being Too Serious – my resting face is solemn, but that doesn’t mean I’m not content or unhappy. I’m not the life & soul of any party, but can still be enjoying myself
Problem Solving – getting things done, working out solutions, researching options & just having a go
Positivity – determined to find the good in anyone & any situation, confident there’s a solution to even the most tricky problem
Shyness – in the past I’ve been accused of being unfriendly, when it was only shyness which stopped me from making friends. I now know I’m a Social Introvert
Clumsiness – my dad always used to joke that I’d better never get a job in a dynamite factory
Reliability – being available & doing what I said I’d do, even when I’m pushed for time, or have to put others first
Conscientiousness – taking obligations seriously, being diligent & careful with work & posessions
Detailed – liking to have as much information as possible, but then can also become bogged-down with too much detail
Flexibility – accepting change, adapting when necessary & understanding that things happen unexpectedly so positively dealing with that
Adventurous – I do lack confidence, but will have a go & have a number of activities on my bucket list
Kindness – I love to help out where & when I can & hate to see anyone struggling. I don’t say “No” often enough as a result!
Accommodating – my home is always open to anyone who needs somewhere to stay & I don’t mind being discomforted when helping others
Listening – I can impartially listen, offer suggestions if asked-to, but otherwise just be an ear for anyone frustrated & needing to offload
Encouraging – loving to see others succeed & encouraging them to do-so if I can
Overthinking – as I do find it hard to make big decisions without considering all options, pros & cons, then facing analysis paralysis
Confidence – surprisingly, as I often feel very unconfident & can doubt my abilities at times
Honesty – I’ve lied once in my life, but never again. I now pride myself on being honest, even outspoken & seek this in others. My kids knew punishment would be harsher if they were ever found to be lying…
Being Genuine – what you see is what you get – warts & all! I’m open & honest about who I am, my accent, capabilities & beliefs – or lack-of
Open Minded – willing to consider all options, research & review, before making an informed opinion
Opinionless – I like to see all sides of an argument, but then sometimes find it difficult to form my own opinion
Despising Manipulation – always show respect – be selfless & kind. Don’t use or manipulate others
Love of Animals – even our parrot who bites me any chance he has! I’m a softy & would have a houseful of critters if I had the space, time & funds
Hate of Cruelty & Bullying – to all living beings – & we’re all living, feeling animals with souls. Mosquitos are the only creatures I kill
Detesting Inequality & Discrimination – whether related to race, ability, disability, career, opportunity, money or health etc. Everyone should be allowed the same opportunities
Hard Working – I’ve often had more than one job & being self-employed, likely don’t take enough time out to relax as there’s always something to do
Control Freak – I find it difficult to delegate, to let others do what I know I can do perfectly well myself, or can learn to do
Lazy – I’m not great at doing exercise & prefer to incorporate activity into an essential chore or errand – cycling to work, rather than just going for a bike ride, walking the dogs as opposed to jogging
Interest in Natural Therapies – I use essential oils & natural supplements each day. This earth has many natural plant-based remedies & I do suspect the motives of big pharma
Hate of Waste – I don’t like living in a throw-away society, of replacing items with the next new shiny version on the market. I do have the best tools I can afford in order to work & earn my living, but other than always having a new mattress, most of my possessions are old & usually replaced with other second-hand items
Wine Drinker – from having a glass as a teenager with my parents during Sunday dinner, I’ve always loved a drink of wine. I also enjoy a Guinness, occasional ice-cold G&T or vodka, whilst my late father-in-law, a Scot, gave me an expensive taste in single malt whiskeys. However, I just don’t get the attraction of shots or most cocktails, though I’m partial to Agua de Valencia (Valencian Water) & good Sangria!
Greenery Lover – being in the countryside feeds my soul, enjoying nature helps me to relax & whilst I enjoy wild landscapes, I do prefer lush green plants, trees & forests
Nancy, A comprehensive list of traits that I recognise and value.
The training course you were on could not have continued without your active organisational help to make it happen when I broke my shoulder in 2013.
Thank you
Thanks so much Michael! Teaching remotely was new to all of us then – how times have cahnged 😉
Nancy, I recognise many of these characteristics from working with you. Your constant support, patience and helping to find practical resolutions in difficult circumstances was invaluable and very much appreciated.
Thanks so much for the kind comments and feedback Beverley. It’s been a while – I hope you are well?
A VA who finds it difficult to delegate? Haha I love this! 😻 Great list Nancy! We do have lots in common…
I’m a self-confessed control freak Simona, which makes me a good VA, but the downside is then having difficulty delegating myself!
